Saddenned by the fact that about 90% of the kids from my generation don’t know (and/or don’t care) that this atrocity happenned in our country. It wasn’t that long ago. It wasn’t punished. And 37 innocent people were cowardly murdered by the Armed forces.

—————————————————————————On the evening of January 31st, 1980 Guatemala became a part of the Annals of the World for an event that shocked and moved all foreigners and nationals regardless.  The Embassy of Spain in the capital was burned by the police, according to testimony at the time collected.  Inside, 37 people were killed, including visitors, diplomativos and peasants who were holding a peaceful protest.
 A day later, the sole survivor of the occupants of the European delegation, the indigenous leader Gregorio Yuja, was kidnapped from the hospital, tortured, murdered. Here is what happenned…
